Thief steals from charity

Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC), it's a big name for a small group of people who provide an important service.

The organization assists families who are having a tough time paying for travel expenses related to their children's out-of-town hospital stays.

"Parking in Toronto can be $10 a day," says Brian Latendre, one of the members.

Parents who are worried about their children's health shouldn't have to worry about how they can afford to pay for accommodations and food while away from home, explains Latendre.

The organization has put collection boxes in Pizza Huts and other locations in Greater Sudbury. It is one of the group's principal sources of revenue.

Recently, someone stole one of the collection boxes from the Hanmer Pizza Hut.

Latendre estimates there was about $300 to $500 in the box - money the NOFCC won't be able to give to families who really need it.

Latendre says the collection boxes weigh about 50 pounds each and would be hard to steal. Anyone with information about the missing collection box should phone Greater Sudbury Police. People who would like to help NOFCC, can phone Latendre at 705-524-3738.
