Thieves targeting unoccupied trailers

Greater Sudbury Police are investigating a string of more than 20 break-ins involving unoccupied trailers in Chelmsford-area trailer parks.

These trailer parks include Hidden Valley Campgrounds, Stobie Dam Trailer Park and the trailer parks on Fire Routes I and J off Vermillion Lake Road.

Police say more complaints are likely to be reported as owners become aware of break-ins.

The first reported incidents came from the Stobie Dam Trailer Park, and are believed to have occurred sometime Sept. 26. The incidents on Fire Route I are believed to have occurred sometime Sept. 27.

Items stolen include flat screen televisions, small electronics, alcohol, tools and change.

Police are asking nearby residents to contact police with information that may be pertinent to the break-ins and to be vigilant of suspicious activity in the area.

“At this time of year, many campers are closing up for the season and may become targeted for alcohol, electronics and sports equipment like boat motors and tools,” a Greater Sudbury Police press release stated.

“Campers and seasonal residents should have good locks, keep their potentially targeted items out of sight (or removed from trailers and camps completely for the off season) and have someone check your property on a regular basis.”
