Three people are dead following a collision between a utility task vehicle (UTV or side-by-side) and a vehicle in Wiikwemkoong Thursday evening.

Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police (WTP) were dispatched to the scene just after 6 p.m. on March 20. Police said the two vehicles collided in the intersection of Willow Street and Pontiac Avenue in Wiikwemkoong, resulting in three people being ejected from the UTV.

Police and paramedics began life-saving measures at the scene, but the injuries to the victims were severe.

Police said the Wiikwemkoong Community Crisis Response Team and WTP Crisis Response Team are assisting family members affected by the incident.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Their names are not being released out of respect for their families at this point in time.”
