Three face trafficking, possession charges

Two men and a woman, all in their 20s, are facing a series of drug trafficking and possession charges, Greater Sudbury Police said in a release Wednesday.

Two men and a woman, all in their 20s, are facing a series of drug trafficking and possession charges, Greater Sudbury Police said in a release Wednesday.

They are charged with having cash from the proceeds of crime, stolen property, marijuana and fentanyl strips. Fentanyl is a powerful opiate, much stronger than morphine. An effective pain reliever, its effects have been compared to heroin when abused.

The news release said that on Tuesday, members of Greater Sudbury Police's drug enforcement unit saw “persons engaged in drug trafficking from a parked motor vehicle.

“Officers attended the vehicle and arrested three persons,” the release said.

Following the arrest, a search warrant for an Azilda residence “associated to two of the three persons” uncovered the fentanyl patches, marijuana and cannabis resin.

A 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman are in police custody pending a bail hearing on charges that include:
-- Trafficking a controlled substance: fentanyl patches;
-- possession of a controlled substance: cannabis;
-- possession of a controlled substance: cannabis resin; and,
-- possession of property obtained by crime.

Also a 24-year-old male is also in custody pending a bail hearing on the following charges:
-- Possession of a controlled substance: fentanyl patches; and
-- Possession of property obtained by crime.

In total, police found drugs with a street value of about $920, and $6,945 in Canadian currency.
