Three from Sudbury among four charged for violent robbery

The four are accused of breaking into a Sturgeon Falls home and committing an assault while in the process of robbing the home

Four people, including three from Sudbury, face numerous charges following a violent home invasion in Sturgeon Falls on July 15.

West Nipissing OPP said at around 11 p.m. that night, officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in the area of Fort Road and Lalande Road in Sturgeon Falls.

Police said the investigation revealed that two people were in the home when three people unknown to them broke in and threatened them with a firearm. 

“One of the victims escaped and ran to a nearby neighbour for assistance, and police were called,” OPP said. “The culprits fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival.”

A short time after, police said they located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 17 near Leblanc Road. The driver and three passengers were arrested.

Three people from Sudbury — aged 32, 26 and 18 — were arrested and charged, as well as a 32-year-old man from Hamilton.

The 32-year-old from Sudbury faces charges of breaking and entering, robbery using a firearm, possession of break-in tools, failure to comply with an undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000).

Following a bail hearing, the accused remains in custody, with a rescheduled appearance in North Bay on July 28.

The 26-year-old from Sudbury faces charges of breaking and entering, robbery using a firearm, possession of break-in tools, possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000), mischief under $5,000 and assault.

The accused was held in custody following a bail hearing with a rescheduled court appearance in North Bay of July 29.

The 18-year-old from Sudbury faces charges of breaking and entering, robbery using a firearm, possession of break-in tools and possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000).

The accused was to appear in court in North Bay on July 27.

The 32-year-old Hamilton resident is charged with breaking and entering, robbery using a firearm, possession of break-in tools, uttering threats of death or bodily harm, failure to comply with an undertaking and failure to comply with a prohibition order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody, with a re-scheduled appearance in North Bay on Aug. 4.
