Three people are facing firearm and drug-related charges after gunshots were reported coming from inside a David Street residence in Chelmsford.
Upon receiving a report of gunfire, Greater Sudbury police were dispatched to the residential building at approximately 8:05 a.m. on Saturday.
Two people from inside the residential unit exited the building to speak with officers, and a third person remained inside.
“Due to concerns for the individual’s safety, officers entered the unit,” police reported in a media release issued on Monday, noting that the third person was found and escorted out of the building.
While in the unit, police found what they believed to be cocaine and other drug paraphernalia, as well as an empty shell casing and a rifle.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
All three people in the unit were 33 years of age, and all face the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada and Controlled Drug and Substance Act:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
All three suspects were held in custody overnight and attended court on Sunday to face these charges.
