Greater Sudbury Police are actively seeking suspect(s) in connection to a string of robberies in downtown Sudbury and New Sudbury.

On Jan. 16 at around 11 p.m. GSPS responded to a robbery that occurred at the end of Lamothe Street near Cambrian College.

The 19-year old, female victim was walking alone on Paquette Street when she noticed an unknown man walking in the same direction on the opposite side of the road.

When the woman reached Lamothe Street she was approached from behind by this same man and pushed to the ground.

The unknown man demanded that the victim hand over her money. When she told him she did not have any money he punched and kicked her. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect is being described as; a man with darker skin, medium build, wearing a dark coat and pants.

The suspect was last seen walking along the west side of Lasalle Secondary School going towards Kennedy Street.

Similar robberies occurred prior to this crime, on Elm Street in the downtown core at around 1 a.m. on both Jan. 15 and 16, where an unknown man approached females who were walking alone and demanded money.

On Jan. 15, the female victim suffered minor injuries after being punched twice in the face when she informed the suspect she did not have any money.

On Jan. 16, the female reported being approached by a man displaying a knife, however, there was no contact between the suspect and the victim because she screamed loudly for help and the man fled on foot.

All three robberies are being actively investigated by members of the GSPS Break, Enter and Robbery Unit (B.E.A.R) and although there is some commonality, no direct links have yet to be made to a single offender.

Police would like to remind citizens to always be aware of your surroundings especially when walking alone at night.

In order to enhance personal safety when outside in darkness, when possible, walk with a friend and stay in open, well-lit, public areas.

The GSPS encourages citizens to always let someone know where you are going (route) and when you plan to return.

Anyone with any information about these crimes or who may have security video footage in the areas of these incidents are asked to contact the Break Enter and Robbery Unit at 705-675-9171 extension 6624.
