At least three young offenders are to blame for a series of incidents in the city's south end, according to the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The break-ins and thefts have earned the offenders, who can't be identified, 27 criminal charges.

Police say over a week in May 2003 culprits broke into a warehouse at the Sudbury Hylands Golf Course, stealing assorted tools, a generator and two motorized farm vehicles.

On two separate occasions, in addition, the youths stole heavy equipment from a nearby construction site, damaging other equipment there in the process.

About $230,000 in stolen property has been recovered by police. About $50,000 in damage was done.

The youths were held pending a bail hearing.

Members of the Street Crime Unit acted upon information from the uniform division in laying the charges, said police.

Police thank south end businesses and residents for their help in the investigation.
