The parents of a four-month-old infant who died in December have been arrested by the Timmins Police Service for failing to provide the necessaries of life and causing death by criminal negligence.

On Dec. 11, Timmins Police Service officers were called to the Timmins and District Hospital for a report of suspicious injuries to the baby.

The baby was transported to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and on Dec. 14, succumbed to its injuries.

A comprehensive investigation was undertaken by the Timmins Police Service.

A 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, the names of the accused and the victim will not be released by police. However, police did confirm the accused are the baby's parents.

The suspects are due to appear in bail court in Timmins today.
