Tip about suspicious vehicle leads to Hwy. 69 impaired charge

A 48-year-old Bracebridge man has been charged after allegedly driving while impaired on Highway 69 in the Estaire area.

The Nipissing West (Sudbury) OPP report that on March 24 at 2:53 a.m., they received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway on Trout Lake Road in Estaire.

Officers were then advised the vehicle had left, heading northbound on Highway 69, and the driver was possibly impaired.

The OPP stopped the vehicle on Highway 69 within the City of Greater Sudbury.

The driver has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released from custody with a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury June 24.

He was issued a 90-day automatic driver's licence suspension, and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The OPP say this charge marks the 17th driver to be charged with impaired driving in the Nipissing West detachment area so far in 2020.

In 2019, 62 drivers were charged with impaired by the Nipissing West OPP.
