Toronto man arrested for alleged drug trafficking in Wiikwemkoong

An 18-year-old suspected drug dealer from Toronto was arrested in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory and escorted off Manitoulin Island by police on March 13.

In addition to drug charges, the suspect was also charged for violating regulations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, said police.

He is scheduled to appear virtually at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 18 to answer to  the charges. 

“The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service expresses sincere thanks to the community members who  have come forth with confidential information in aiding in the apprehension and seizure of illicit drugs,” said tribal police in a news release.
