Update Hwy 144 collision: Highway now reopened after pedestrian struck, killed by train

The highway was reopened overnight, the OPP reported via its northeastern Ontario Twitter account this morning.

Updated at 5:36 p.m.: The OPP have confirmed that the pedestrian who was struck by a train on the CP rail line in Moncrieff Township was pronounced dead at the scene.

The OPP have not released the name of the deceased.

The investigation continues.

Updated at 4:56 p.m.: Highway 144 remains closed at this time after a pedestrian was struck by a train in Moncrieff Township earlier this afternoon.

The Sudbury OPP, the Cartier Fire Department and the Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident at 2:39 p.m. today.

The pedestrian was struck on the Canadian Pacific rail line, the OPP report.

There is no word on injuries at this time. Officers remain on scene and Highway 144 remains closed between Regional Road 8 in Onaping and Route 560 at the Watershed.

Highway 144 is closed between Onaping Falls and the Watershed after a train collided with an unknown number of vehicles, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

There's no information on how many vehicles are involved, or whether there are injuries.

More information is expected to be released around 5 p.m., said the OPP.
