Two charged following Elliot Lake drug bust

A Controlled Drugs and Substances Acts warrant was executed in Elliot Lake Saturday, Feb. 29, resulting in two residents being issued a combined total of 16 charges. 

The seizure was made around 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning, on Brunswick Walk, in Elliot Lake, by members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in collaboration with OPP's Emergency Response Team.

With the warrant, police seized what is described in a press release as a "significant" amount of suspected cocaine, cannabis and methamphetamines. The search also resulted in the seizure of a cell phone, a "large" amount of cash, drug paraphernalia, ammunition, and numerous prohibited weapons, including a stun gun and brass knuckles.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Other Drug, contrary to section 5(2) of the (CDSA)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (two counts), contrary to section 92(2) of the CC
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (four counts), contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

In addition, a 34-year-old woman from Elliot Lake was also charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5( 2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Other Drug, contrary to section 5(2) of the (CDSA)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (two counts), contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The 35-year-old suspect was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on March 1. The 34-year-old suspect, on the other hand, is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 28.
