Two murders in Sudbury this month: Victim of July 1 Ferndale Ave. assault dies

The victim of a July 1 assault on Ferndale Avenue in the Minnow Lake area has died from his injuries in hospital, and the suspect in the case has now been charged with second degree murder.

The 48-year-old man had previously been charged with attempted murder in the case, but the charge has now been upgraded to second degree murder, Greater Sudbury Police announced Monday morning.

Police said they learned of the man’s death in hospital July 12.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the man,” said GSPS in a press release. “His name will not be released out of respect for the family’s wishes. We ask that you respect their request for privacy during this difficult and emotional time.”

With the death of the victim in the July 1 assault, there has now been two murders in Greater Sudbury this month.

A 51-year-old man has also been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting in Hanmer July 12.
