Update: Hwy 144 now open following fatal crash

According to a tweet from the OPP, Highway 144 has reopened following the fatal crash of three commercial motor vehicles on Nov. 2.

Sudbury.com published incorrect information yesterday, based on a since-deleted OPP tweet, that Highway 144 had reopened following a fatal crash. This was an error and Sudbury.com apologizes for the mistake. The highway remains closed at this time.

South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police have announced the fatal collision that closed Highway 144 involved three commercial vehicles. The highway remains closed at this hour and has been since 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.

The collision took place near Doyle Township, near Highway 101 and the Arctic Watershed plaque.  

The OPP’s investigation has revealed that a southbound commercial motor vehicle collided with two northbound commercial motor vehicles resulting in the highway being blocked.

The identity of the deceased person will be released pending next of kin notification.

The Highway is still closed to facilitate the investigation and for highway repairs.
