UPDATE: Man in critical condition following downtown stabbing yesterday

Police continue to search for a 27-year-old male suspect

There is little new information from police nearly 24 hours after a violent altercation near Lloyd Street in Downtown Sudbury sent a man to hospital with stab wounds to his neck.

According to Greater Sudbury Police Service spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn, the 30-year-old victim is in critical but stable condition at Health Sciences North following emergency surgery.

Police continue to search for a 27-year-old male suspect, who police said is known to the victim. GSPS has not released a full description of the suspect, but Dunn says more information would be provided later today.

The incident happened on Brian McKee Lane opposite the intersection of Lloyd and Pearl Streets at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday.

As many as four detectives and a GSPS forensic unit combed the crime scene yesterday afternoon, where pools of blood could be seen on the pavement.

Detectives at the scene told Sudbury.com they were interviewing witnesses, trying to piece together exactly what took place between the two men.

A traffic stop on the Kingsway at approximately 5 p.m. yesterday which saw tactical officers detain a man and a woman and search the trunk of a black vehicle was unrelated to the stabbing incident, Dunn said.

Although the suspect remains at large, police say there is no threat to public safety.

Sudbury.com will continue to update this story as new details become available.
