Very early morning drive leads to impaired charge

A Sturgeon Falls man is facing several charges after police say they pulled him over for driving erratically on Highway 55 early Monday morning.

The Nipissing West (Noëlville) Detachment reported that they responded to a traffic complaint about an erratic driver headed southbound on Highway 535 from Highway 17 in Hagar at 4:55 a.m. on June 8. 

OPP said officers located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 535 at Shaw Road in the Municipality of French River.   

“Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had been consuming alcohol and was subsequently arrested,” OPP said.

A 26-year-old man from  Sturgeon Falls is charged with driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, driving with a blood-alcohol level higher than 80, and driving while under suspension.

The man was released by way of an Undertaking and has a court date in Sudbury on July 29.

Police said the driver was also issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP said this is the 27th person charged with impaired driving so far this year.
