Video: Three people arrested in raid on pot distribution facility

Charge pending after police execute search warrant at First Nations Medicinal

Three people were arrested and charges are pending following a raid at First Nations Medicinal on Wahnapitae First Nation.

An undisclosed quantity of marijuana and marijuana products, as well as cash, was seized after Anishinabek Police Service executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“The suspects haven't been formally charged as of yet, but they are coming,” said Insp. Marc Lesage, of the Anishinabek Police Service. “I don't have an exact dollar figure for what was seized, because it's still being processed.”

He said it was the chief and council of Wahnapitae First Nation who voiced their concerns about the business that led to the investigation and subsequent raid.

The province is still writing legislation for when marijuana is legalized on July 1 of this year, which means it's still illegal under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to sell cannabis, Lesage said.

“We are going to enforce the laws that are still in effect,” he said.

No one was injured in the raid, he said, and the three people arrested were co-operative.

Sudbury.com phoned Wahnapitae First Nations chief Ted Roque, but he has not returned the call yet.

A call to First Nations Medicinal seeking comment also has not been returned.

If you have information about this or any crime you are asked to contact the Anishinabek Police Service 705-472-0270 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips.

Original story:

Anishinabek Police Services said a raid took place on Jan. 25 at First Nations Medicinal, a marijuana dispensary.

Deputy Chief Dave Whitlow confirmed a raid did take place, but was not able to go into detail about what happened, what was seized or if anyone was arrested as a result.

He said that information will be made available soon.

First Nations Medical opened in September 2017. It's owned by Chadwick Mcgregor.

In November, Northern Life and Sudbury.com interviewed Mcgregor about his business. He told us he believe he was operating legally, and that a lot of his business was for recreational use. However, Health Canada said in an email that selling marijuana to recreational users is still illegal in Canada.

First Nations Medicinal posted on its Facebook page today that it is temporarily closed.

This story will be updated as information is made available.
