Webbwood man accused of trying to run someone over with ATV

A resident of Webbwood was arrested and charged last week after allegedly attempting to run someone over using an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

On Feb. 24, around 11 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received and responded to reports of an incident involving weapons and an ATV in Espanola. 

Further investigation revealed that the accused had intentionally attempted to run the victim over. No injuries were reported. 

As a result, a 38-year-old man from Webbwood was arrested and charged with the following: 

  • Dangerous operation contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) CC
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC
  • Assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) CC
  • Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), two counts

The accused was sent to Sudbury Bail Court and remains in custody with a scheduled bail hearing on March 2.
