A single-vehicle crash in Curtin Township, between Espanola and Manitoulin Island, on July 31 required the driver to be airlifted to hospital.

Manitoulin OPP report police, the Espanola Fire Department and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services were dispatched to the scene at around 4:45 p.m. that day. The crash occurred in Curtin Township.

“Investigation revealed a motor vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock cut,” OPP reports. “The lone occupant of the motor vehicle was transported by Air Ornge to Health Sciences North in Sudbury.”

The crash closed Highway 6 for several hours while police investigated, which continues with the assistance of the OPP's Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (TIME), traffic collision investigator and a reconstructionist.
