There have been a number of collisions and near misses involving vehicles and wild animals on Highway 17 between Nairn Centre and Massey over the past several weeks, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

Similar collisions are happening on Highway 69 near Burwash.

This has prompted a reminder from the OPP to scan the roadway from fence line to fence line. Motorists are encouraged to reduce their speed in areas where moose and deer sightings are frequent, especially at night.

If you must take evasive action, be mindful of other vehicles on the roadway, said the OPP. Many collisions are caused by drivers attempting to avoid striking an animal on the roadway.
