Woman charged in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township murder

A 45-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a domestic disturbance in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township (this is the Massey area).

The Manitoulin OPP responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at 8:38 p.m. Aug. 4.

Police located a victim, who was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. No details about the victim’s age or gender were provided by police.

The accused, Melissa Eden of Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

She has been remanded into custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury at a later date.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner-Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS). Also assisting is the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS). 

Police say there is no concern for public safety.
