Woman clocked at 130 km/h on Hwy 17 was also drunk, police say

A 23-year-old Sudbury woman who was allegedly speeding and driving drunk on Highway 17 in Greater Sudbury is facing several charges.

The Nipissing West OPP say officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 17 at 5:38 p.m. Jan. 12, when they observed a vehicle travelling at more than 130 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

The officers’ investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing. 

The woman was arrested and charged with: 

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CC; and
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) CC.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court March 3.

She was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
