The Sudbury Wolves were handed a tough 7-2 loss against the Soo Greyhounds at the Sudbury Community Arena Saturday night, in their first 2019-2020 pre-season game.

Greyhounds Joe Carroll wasted no time getting the visitors their first goal of the season, just over one minute into the game. His efforts were followed shortly thereafter by Tanner Dickinson, who extended the Greyhounds lead to two.

Carroll was back on the ice in the second period, scoring a short-handed marker to claim his second point in just over six minutes of play. Despite a number of solid plays by Sudbury, the Wolves trailed 3-0 after forty minutes, with shots on goal 19-16 in favour of the Soo.

Things got heated in the third period, starting with an early shot by Greyhounds Owen Gilhula, followed by the Wolves’ first goal of the season a minute later. This celebration was short-lived, as the Greyhounds then scored three unanswered goals before Sudbury’s Macauley Carson was able to respond with one more point for the home team.

The game came to a 7-2 final for the Soo Greyhounds.

While the boys in blue and silver gave it their all, a press release by the Sudbury Wolves said fans can expect much more from their performance moving forward, especially those breaking the ice on their OHL careers.

“Having just finished their training camp, the Wolves have had little time to get to know their teammates and will look to build chemistry as their pre-season action continues,” said the release.

The Wolves will look to redeem themselves in Ottawa tonight, facing off against the 67s at 4 p,m.

Wolves begin the regular season on the road Sept. 19, before returning for their first home game Sept. 27 against the North Bay Battalion.
