After gaining fame as the centre man for the San Jose Sharks, Andrew Desjardins returned to his roots on July 17.

The 27-year-old hockey player hosted a golf tournament at Lively Golf and Country Club in support of Walden Minor Hockey.

Desjardin grew up in Walden and played in the minor Hockey league until he was 15. Now, it's his time to give back, he said.

"I'm trying to give back to Walden Minor since they gave so much to me," Desjardins said. "I want to promote the sport."

Desjardins said there was no set fundraising target, but the idea was to raise awareness and give back to the community. All money raised will help lower the cost of registration fees for families that otherwise can't afford to pay it, he said.

The tournament featured hole-in-one prizes, silent and live auctions and dinner for all participants.
