This weekend the Laurentian Voyageurs Swim Teams are at home to compete with the University of Guelph Gryphons. Competition starts at 2 pm Saturday at the Laurentian Olympic Gold Pool.

Laurentian University alumni are invited to take part in the first LU Alumni Ottawa chapter event during Winterlude, Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1, Schedule of activities include mens and womens varsity basketball games at Carleton Friday evening. On Saturday there will be a skating party for alumni and their families at Dows Lake. The meeting place is the Mexicali Rosa?s, 1001 Queen Elizabeth Dr. Saturday evening there will be a reception at Mexicali Rosa?s. LU alumni are asked to confirm their participation before Jan. 24, by calling the Alumni Office at 1 (800) 461-4030 or at [email protected].

The Sudbury Sprinters Speed Skating Club sent five skaters to the Canada?s Capital Long Track Competition last weekend in Ottawa. All five skaters showed in the top five in their events:

- Olympic Style Sprints, Senior Men: Andre van Wageningen, first; Paul Corsi, third; and Warren Burden, fifth.

- In the Mass Start, Senior Men, Andre van Wageningen finished first.

- In Intermediate Men competition, Warren Burden finished first and Pat Courtney third

- Amber Ranich finished fourth in Midget Girls.

The Sudbury Wolves 50/50 Club recently showed its support for the Brain Injury Association. The association was presented with $500 from the sale of 50/50 tickets at Wolves games. The association works to promote awareness of the needs of people living with brain injuries. It has provided education on concussion awareness and instruction for coaches about when to remove an injured players.
