Cambrian College has recruited five new players — including four from the Sudbury District Secondary School Athletic Association – to its Golden Shield women's volleyball program.

Jillian Vallier, from Lasalle Secondary School, Amanda Kring and Alandria Czerkas, both from Confederation Secondary School, Emily Sanders, from Lockerby Composite School and Barrie native Kelsey Watson will join the program for the 2014-2015 volleyball season.

All five young women have been exposed to plenty of top-end volleyball competition, both through high school and club ball, to get them ready for the next step in their respective careers on the court.

Vallier said it was Cambrian's coaching staff that convinced her to enrol with the college.

“I want to be the best, so I want to be coached by the best,” she said.

A two-time OFSAA volleyball participant, Sanders also competed in the 2010 Ontario Summer Games, for soccer, and finished second in her classification at the 2010 Gymnastics Ontario trampoline championships.

The Golden Shield women’s volleyball team will open the 2014-2015 season at home on Wednesday, Oct. 22 against the Collège Boréal Vipères, and will host the Humber Hawks on Saturday, Oct. 25.
