If you’re up to watch some live curling action — or to check out the renovations to the Capreol Curling Club — head out to Capreol this weekend for the Northern Ontario Curling Association Travellers Region Five Playdowns.

Running from Feb. 17-19, the event will see the top four men’s teams from the region and the top five women’s teams battling it out.

Local teams from Capreol, Idylwylde, Sudbury, Coniston and Copper Cliff will be competing in the event.

The winning teams from these regional playdowns will be heading to the provincial finals, which are being held in North Bay this year. The provincial winners head to the nationals next fall.

In other Capreol curling news, the club is hosting its annual ladies bonspiel on March 3 and March 4, featuring an Elvis tribute artist, classic rock ‘n’ roll, a craft who on March 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and, of course, all the curling you can handle.

The club has been renovated over the past two years with new paint, landscaping and upgrades to the washrooms and kitchens. All the old plaques have been fixed up as well.
