That pattern continued in the afternoon session as Rodrigues fell to the eventual gold-medal winner, Danielle Lappage (BMWC - Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club), but evened her record at 2-2 with a 14-5 victory over Temitope Ogunjimi (Dinos WC) to lay claim to a bronze medal.
While the result will not propel Rodrigues to a spot on the Team Canada roster that will compete at worlds, it might be enough to secure a berth on the 2015 Summer Universiade (FISU) Games in South Korea.
Meanwhile in Brazil, Alannah Day got her first taste of international competition, losing a pair of bouts at the 2014 Pan-American Cadet Wrestling Championships. Day lost her opening match to Parraga Ayovi of Ecuador, as the South American athlete went on to defeat both Zambrano Gongara of Columbia and Angie Orta of Venezuela en route to claiming gold.
Moved to the repechage round, Day lost her second match to Zambrano, placing sixth in the field of seven wrestlers. The Sudbury Regional Wrestling Club is back in action this coming weekend as seven members of their youth team head to St Stephen (New Brunswick), site of the 2014 Canada East competition.
