The Greater Sudbury Cubs Jr. A Hockey Club has announced a new hockey partnership with the Coniston Minor Hockey Association.

The partnership will see the creation of a Junior Cubs U7 and U9 Comprehensive Skill Development program for the 2023-24 season.

“Coniston Minor Hockey President Yves Gervais approached us back in the summer with the idea of creating a new development program for hockey playing youngsters and we were more than pleased to offer our support” Cubs Managing Director Blaine Smith said in a news release.

“This unique in-season development program checks all of the boxes for us including: Inclusivity, equal opportunity, skill  development and engaging with the youth of our community at Cubs home games. Our players look  forward to attending their practices and assisting the young hockey players from Coniston Minor Hockey.”

For his part, Gervais said the Cubs have shown that the understand the importance of supporting the hockey dreams of young players and providing an avenue for them to improve their skills.

“As a minor hockey association, we see the value in partnering with the Cubs organization who are constantly giving-back to their  community and providing support wherever they can,” Gervais said. “Our association is excited to partner with the  Cubs this season and we look forward to attending their home games at the Countryside Arena.”

The Cubs announced a partnership with the Sudbury Playground Hockey League in September as well.
