The Greater Sudbury Cubs return to action Thursday night when they host the Soo Eagles at the Countryside Arena.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Cubs will complete the home and-away series with a return-trip to Soo Michigan on Saturday night.
The Cubs trail the second-place Eagles by just three points in the West Division standings, making these two games against the Eagles pivotal as the Cubs look to climb in the divisional standings.
The Cubs have won both matchups against the high-flying Eagles this season by scores of 5-3 and 4-1.
Tickets for Thursday’s home game will be available at the door for only $10 for adults, $5 for juniors and seniors. Children 12 and under are free with an adult.
Last week, the Cubs split a pair of games by dropping a 6-2 decision to the first-place Soo Thunderbirds on Thursday night and then defeated the Beavers on Saturday night in Blind River by a score of 5-2.
On Saturday evening, Mathieu Morin scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to lead the Cubs offensively. Seth Coulter scored his third goal of the season for the Cubs, while Jaxon Bedard recorded his ninth goal of the year.
Cubs’ star forward Kyler Campbell notched his league-leading 20th goal of the season to round out the scoring for the Cubs.
Joel Rainville recorded the win in goal for the Cubs by stopping 38 of the 40 shots that he faced. The Cubs fired 36 shots on the Blind River net. The Cubs were 1-for-2 on the power play while the Beavers were 0-for-5.
On Thursday night, the Soo Thunderbirds jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and increased their lead to 6-1 after two periods of play. Jaxon Bedard scored his eighth goal of the season for the Cubs while local product Cole Crowder added his second goal of the season. Shots on goal were 23-22 in favour of the T-Birds.
