The Greater Sudbury Cubs finished just one point shy of first place overall in the NOJHL this season, but that is now  behind them as they prepare for a best-of-seven, semi-final series against the Espanola Paper Kings as the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs kickoff this week.

The Cubs take on Espanola in back-to-back games on March 23 and March 24 at Walden Arena. Due to the curling events at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, the Cubs home games have been moved to the Walden Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. for both home games.

The Cubs enjoyed an eight-win, three-loss, one-overtime-loss record in 12 match-ups this season with Espanola. The  Cubs were a perfect 6-0 by winning all six games played in Espanola. The Cubs were 2-3-1 on home ice versus Espanola. The Cubs outscored Espanola 51-37 in the 12 games played.

The first 500 fans attending Thursday night’s game will receive a Growl Towel courtesy of RBC. In addition, RBC volunteers will be collecting food donations for the Walden Food Bank at both home games this week.

Play-off tickets are available at Battistelli’s YIG store in Walden until Wednesday at noon. After that, tickets will be available at the door of the Walden arena on Thursday and Friday night, one hour before game time.
