The Greater Sudbury Cubs face off against the Espanola Express on a rare Wednesday night tilt at the Countryside Arena.

The Cubs will close out their season series with the Express on home ice. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday night, the Cubs will host their final regular home game against the Cochrane Crunch. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Prior to the start of Thursday’s game, the Cubs will take a moment to recognize their five graduating players including: Kyler Campbell, Joel Rainville, Mathieu Morin, Seth Coulter and Josh Boucher.

Tickets for this week’s games are available at the door of the Countryside Arena. Adult tickets are only $10 while juniors and seniors are only $5 and children 12 and under are free of charge with an adult.

The Cubs will close out the busy week with a road trip to Soo Michigan on Friday night to face the Eagles.

Last week, the Cubs dropped two games on home ice before splitting a pair of road games.

On Toonie Tuesday, the Cubs scored twice in the last two minutes of the game to send the game into overtime against the Soo Eagles.

Chris Innes scored for the Cubs with less than three minutes to play before Billy Biedermann sent the fans into a frenzy with a big goal with just 16 seconds left on the clock.

Despite having some great scoring chances in the extra frame, the Cubs dropped a possible point in the shootout.

Jaxon Bedard scored the opening goal for the Cubs and was named the game’s second star.

On Thursday, the Elliot Lake Red Wings recorded their second consecutive win over the Cubs with a convincing 4-1 victory. The Cubs fired 38 shots at the Red Wings net, but the Red Wings managed to score four times on 17 shots.

Cole Crowder was the lone goal scorer for the Cubs with Nicholas Toffoli and Kyle Campbell adding assists.

On Saturday, the Cubs made their one and only visit to Powassan and skated away with a 5-0 victory over the powerhouse Voodoos. The Cubs outshot the Voodoos 35-27 and Joel Rainville recorded his fourth shutout of the season to tie for the league-lead in that department.

Mathieu Morin opened the scoring for the Cubs before Pierson Sobush scored twice in the middle frame to give the Cubs a commanding 3-0 lead after two periods of play.

Crowder and Nicholas Faught scored in the third period to ice the win for Sudbury.

On Sunday, the Cubs travelled to Espanola and took the early lead when Campbell opened the scoring with his 28th goal of the season. The Express took the lead back before the end of the period and never looked back.

Cameron Walker scored twice while Sobush scored his 20th goal of the season for the Cubs in an 8-4 loss to the Express.

This week’s final home game stand will prove crucial as the Cubs look to solidify their third-place position in the West Division with only four games remaining in the regular season.
