There is sure to be no lack of shared stories and smiles as friends of longtime hockey volunteer Don "Doc" Cholmondeley gather for a golf tournament in his honour later this month.

The first annual Don "Doc" Cholmondeley Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Timberwolf Golf Club. The foursome pricing of $500 includes 18 holes of golf, with cart, dinner, hole in one contest, closest to the pin, closest to the line and a silent auction.

All proceeds raised from the event are earmarked for the Northern Cancer Research Foundation in memory of Cholmondeley. The east coast native was a mainstay at hockey rinks in and around Sudbury, spending several years within the Rayside-Balfour hockey system, including time with the Sabrecats, and eventually working alongside Dan Buckland of the Sudbury Wolves in the past few years.

Registration and information can be obtained by emailing [email protected], or visiting the group on Facebook. The event will run as a four-person scramble, with several former local junior players involved in the organization of the tournament.
