The Sudbury Five announced this week they have acquired a new point guard to help lead them through the 2022 season.

Jason Calliste of Scarborough, Ont. not only brings a wealth of playing experience with him, but also an impressive three-point percentage.

“You always get excited when you can add a person like Jay to your team, let alone the player he is,” said GM and head coach Elliott Etherington in a news release. “I’ve heard it from every coach  that I’ve ever talked to about him, from college to the pros, he is an absolutely great person and the  ultimate teammate.”

Etherington added that Calliste not only brings championship experience with him, but also some of the best shooting hands in the league.

“I can’t wait for the fans in Sudbury to see him, and the rest of the team, get to business,” he said.

After attending both the University of Oregon and the University of Detroit Mercy, Calliste spent two seasons (2014-2015 and 2016-2017) with the Maine Red Claws in the NBA G league, and did a stint playing in Latvia as well.

“He was also named to the First Team All Canadian selection in 2019-2020 and the Third Team All Canadian selection in 2018-2019,” the Five said in a news release.

With a three-point percentage of 43.6 and 214 career three-pointers to his name, Calliste has an elite ability to shoot from deep.

Fans will be able to see Calliste and the rest of the squad in action when the Five hit the court at Sudbury Arena starting on Feb. 5.
