The Sudbury Five has announced that they’ve signed towering power forward Lewis Djonkam for the 2024-25 season.
"Lewis is a high energy guy, the crowd will love him,” said Five Head Coach and General Manager Logan Stutz in a news release. “His energy and ability to do the little things right are very important on the court and will help us win many games. Our fans are really going to enjoy Lewis’ game."
Hailing from Springfield, Virginia, the 6-9 Djonkam played Division I ball at Morgan State University.
“During the 2022-23 season, he started 29 of 31 games, averaging 7.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 21.4 minutes per game,” the team said. “Most recently, Djonkam played for the Newfoundland Rogues in the BSL, where he averaged nine points and 4.5 rebounds per game, showcasing a 54.1-per-cent field goal percentage and 65.1 per cent from the free-throw line.”
For his part, Djonkam said he is looking forward to playing in Sudbury.
“I am excited to be a part of the program here in Sudbury,” said Djonkam. “I look forward to making a positive impact in the community both on and off the court. As always, I would like to thank my ma (Shari) and my brothers (MBF) back home for supporting me to where I’m at today.”
