With school soon about to end, the push will begin in earnest for the thousands of athletes from across the province set to participate in the 2012 Ontario Summer Games in Toronto in mid-August.

Coach Matt Oliveira and the balance of the Team North U-16 girls basketball staff have finalized their roster, with workouts scheduled in July and August for both Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury.

No region in the province is likely hit quite as hard by the geographic realities that are faced by the northern Ontario crew, as young ladies from Thunder Bay to Huntsville look to come together, as a team, in order to provide a solid showing at the Games.

The 2012 Ontario Summer Games Women's Basketball Team North roster includes: Sudbury players Marianne Alarie, Shelby Ernst and Laura Graham, as well as players from across northern Ontario, including Diane Begin, Jesse Bjornaa, Kayla Deschatelets, Aliisa Heiskanen, Ariane Lefebvre, Tianna Mageron, Taylor McAlpine, Shannon McKitrick and Alexandra Trahan.

Joining Oliveira on the team coaching staff is Sault College women's basketball head coach Katie Hamilton. Play commences at the Summer Games in basketball, and countless other sports, on Aug. 16.
