Cambrian’s women’s soccer team earned a crucial victory on Oct. 27 in OCAA Championship play, beating the Fanshawe Falcons 2-1 to advance to the semi-final on Friday.
The Falcons came into the game ranked first in the West division, and ranked fifth in the country.
Fanshawe’s Jade Kovacevic was named 2016 OCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year on Wednesday, so the Golden Shield were in tough against some elite competition.
Cambrian’s roster is full of hometown players, complimented by some additional players from outside of Sudbury.
Val Caron native Tiffany Johnson has been making a huge impact in the OCAA this year and is the league’s new all-time leading scorer.
Cambrian came into the tilt as the number two team in the East Division, behind top-ranked Algonquin College.
The Cambrian Golden Shield women’s soccer team will take on Algonquin at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29.
The medal round games are scheduled for Saturday.
