Hockey conditioning camp returns

The camp?s head instructors are Oscar Clouthier and Ken MacKenzie, who have more than 50 years of combined coaching and hockey instruction experience.

Clouthier is the new commissioner of the Northern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. He?s a former scout with the Sudbury Wolves and a veteran minor hockey coach. MacKenzie has led the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats to several consecutive NOJHL championships and is a former coach of the Wolves.

The camp is designed to prepare hockey players for upcoming team tryouts through intense on-ice conditioning drills. Every session will include high speed skating, shooting, stickhandling and passing drills.

The camp begins Monday, Aug. 5 for bantams, midgets and juniors at the Countryside Arena and runs daily from 9:30 to 10:30 pm. The camp will run the first three weeks in August.

A one-week advanced skill and conditioning camp will also be held for novice, atom and peewees beginning Aug. 12 at the Cambrian Arena. One hour sessions will be held from 6 to 9 pm, based on age.

The weekly fee is set at $75 per week per player. Registration is limited to the first 35 paid entries for each session. Phone 566-3781 to register or to make further inquiries.

Seniors golf tourney

The Northern Ontario Senior?s Golf Association is now accepting registrations for its 55th annual tournament.

The tournament features a practice round on Monday, July 22, the first round the next day and the final round on Wednesday, July 24, where players will play in their own age group.

Prizes will be awarded upon completion of each flight. The tournament will be held at Forest Ridge Country Club in Chelmsford. The deadline for entries is July 17. Golfers age 50 and over can play in this tournament. Contact Merle Gray at 566-3686 or Noah Bertuzzi at 675-5687.
