When the temperature stays hot, the safest way to cool off is to think about hockey.

The Esso Legends of Hockey tour is coming to Garson this Wednesday, July 2.

HereÂ?s a chance for the average fan to get a close look at many cherished memorabilia and artifacts of the game.

Fans can get close enough to the skates Brett Hull used in Dallas in 1999 to smell the history.

The interactive exhibit on wheels also has artifacts including: Jerome IginlaÂ?s 2002 Team Canada Gold Medal Olympic jersey; one of Wayne GretzkyÂ?s Art Ross trophies; and Hayley WickenheiserÂ?s game winning stick from the 2002 Four Nations Cup.

Even if youÂ?ve taken in the pervious tours, this yearÂ?s exhibit will offer something different for the fans.

Â?The Olympic artifacts will be new,Â? said Karen Fraser, marketing sponsorship manager with Esso Canada.

Â?We strive to work with the Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) to get different memorabilia every year.Â?

Besides the fantastic memorabilia, fans will be able to participate in all kinds of interactive activities such as bubble hockey, Nintendo game units and a life-sized checker board for hockey trivia. Kids will also have the opportunity to colour their very own goalie masks.

Fans attending the one-day event can enter a draw to win an autographed Todd Bertuzzi, Vancouver Canuck jersey.

Â?This tour will appeal to hockey fans of all ages,Â? said Fraser.

Proceeds from the draw will go toward minor hockey associations in the community and toward the NHLÂ?s Hockey Fights Cancer program.

Celebrating a 10-year relationship with the HHOF, Esso is proud to be a part of hockeyÂ?s rich heritage and culture in Canada.

Lizotte Fuels Limited, a local Esso associate was instrumental in bring the tour to the Sudbury area.

Â?Sudbury is a strong hockey town and I knew the people would enjoy the tour coming here,Â? said Paul Lizotte, Esso associate dealer.

Â?Bringing this to Sudbury makes me feel good because this is a way Esso can give back to the community.Â?

Esso is thrilled to bring the exhibits back to Sudbury once again.

Â?We want to celebrate EssoÂ?s commitment to communities across Canada,Â? said Fraser.

Â?ItÂ?s important for us to celebrate our nearly 70 years of sponsoring hockey in Canada.Â?

The tour will be at the Garson Community Centre this Tuesday, July 2, from noon until 8 pm. Admission is free.
