Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School secured first place in the first-ever Cubs and Bears Junior Co-ed Volleyball Tournament.

Holy Cross 2 was among 15 Catholic elementary school teams participating in the inaugural tournament Dec. 9, according to a news release from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Teams played a round-robin-style tournament in three different pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the finals.

Rounding out the winners were St. James A with the silver medal, St. Anne B with the bronze medal and St. Paul with fourth place.

The event was history in the making, according to the news release, as it is the firs year of existence for Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School, which sent four teams to the tournament. It was the first of many similar tournaments that will take place.
