Hounds get the better of Wolves in day two action at Telus Cup

Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves still searching for first win

The Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves haven't got out to the start they had hoped for at the 2018 Telus Cup, dropping their second straight game on April 24.

The Wolves fell by a score of 4-0 at the hands of the Notre Dame Hounds from Saskatchewan on Tuesday, moving their record to 0-2 and putting their place in the playoff round in jeopardy.

For the second game in a row, the Wolves fell behind by a score of 2-0 in the first period on Hounds goals from Quinn Schmiemann and Cordel Larson. The push back that the Wolves showed in their opening game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes wasn't quite there on Tuesday night, however, as Notre Dame will score twice more in the second.

Ethan Ernst scored for the hounds on the power play at the midway mark of the second period and Drew Englot added a second goal with just a minute and a half remaining in the frame.

The Wolves were out-shot by a wide margin through 40 minutes of play as the Hounds dominated shots on goal by a count of 28-10. The third period was more even in terms of shots, with the Hounds outshooting the Wolves 6-5, with no goals being scored by either team.

Aaron Randazzo stopped all 15 shots he faced for the shutout, while Alex Vendette was able to turn aside 30 of the 34 pucks fired his way.

Notre Dame moves to 2-0 on the tournament and is in a three-way tie for first place with Lethbridge and Cantonniers de Magog.

In other action on Tuesday, the Hurricanes downed Moncton by a score of 2-0, and the Cantonniers played a wild, and high-scoring game with the Toronto Young Nationals, coming out on top by a score of 7-4.

Wednesday's games will be highlighted by Notre Dame facing off with Cantonniers de Magog as the two battle for top spot. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The day kicks off with the Lethbridge Hurricanes looking to maintain their perfect 2-0 record when they take on the Toronto Young Nationals (0-2) at noon.

The Wolves will be on the ice at 7 p.m. looking to keep their playoff hopes alive when they take on the winless Moncton Flyers.
