A silver medal performance can be extremely encouraging when it involves a noticeable improvement in play over the course of a tournament weekend.

That was the takeaway for the Sudbury Atom "C" Lady Wolves earlier this month, providing a much better account of themselves when facing the same opponent for a second time in the championship encounter of the Brampton Cougars Tournament.

The locals started well enough, recording a 4-1 victory over the St. Thomas Panthers in their ice-breaker, as Izabel Courville (2), Aiden Panella and Gracey Paul handled the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The northern crew improved to 2-0 thanks to a 3-1 win over the Mount Forest Rams the next day, with Kendra Cole and Kaylee Alberton joining Gracey Paul on the scoresheet for Sudbury.

An initial Sunday morning matchup with the Glengarry Highlanders proved quite disappointing, with the Lady Wolves beaten 8-0 in a contest that unravelled quickly. In that sense, there would be plenty to prove when the teams met again with gold medals on the line, later that same afternoon.

The rematch may not have produced a triumph for the Nickel City reps, but it definitely featured a far superior effort as Glengarry edged Sudbury 1-0 in a thrilling affair.

The 2017-2018 roster for the Atom "C" Lady Wolves is comprised of goaltenders Macy Gaudin-Blanchette and Daniela Grottoli, as well as skaters Kiera Briscoe, Gracie Caridade, Peyton Aikia, Aiden Panella, Anna Svalina, Kaylee Alberton, Chelsea Chenier, Tessa Pilotte, Amber Rancourt, Kendra Cole, Gracey Paul, Addison Gibbs, Maxyme Brulé, Rory Soucie, Izabel Courville, as well as coaches Paul Courville, Mike Pilotte, Aaron Aikia, Mike Paul and Tina Svalina.
