In one of the more exciting tournament victories of their young hockey careers, the Sudbury Bantam "B" Lady Wolves needed a fifth round shootout goal from Emilie Pelletier to defeat the Whitby Wolves 2-1 in the final of the Etobicoke Dolphins Pink in the Rink Tournament last month.

Sudbury kicked things off with a 2-0 win over the Barrie Sharks, as goaltender Melanie Bell recorded the shutout, and Paige Crowder and Bradie Roy handled the offense.

In their round robin meeting with Whitby, the locals were dealt a 2-1 loss, with Rebecca Slywchuk pulling the trigger for the Lady Wolves. Right back on track for game three, as goals from Crowder, Katelyn Lee and Roy powered the northern girls to a 3-0 win over the North York Storm, with Bell extending her shutout streak to back to back games.

The semi-final encounter would pit the Sudbury squad opposite the Mississauga Chiefs, as coach Ian Reinhardt and company punch their ticket to the final with a 3-1 triumph. Bradie Roy netted her third goal of the weekend, and was joined on the scoresheet by Taylor Buchowski and Gabriella Moggy.

The Sudbury-Whitby battle proved every bit as competitive as their first meeting, as Roy forces overtime with a goal in regulation, setting the stage for the shootout heroics from Pelletier.

The 2016-2017 edition of the Sudbury Bantam "B" Lady Wolves team includes Dylann Aikia, Emilie Pelletier, Hannah Whyte, Emma Dyer, Bradie Roy, Katelyn Lee, Rebecca Slywchuk, Kate Watters, Melissa Macdonald, Paige Crowder, Allie Miller, Taylor Buchowski, Kayden Charbonneau, Andrée Ouelette, Gabriella Moggy, Hailey McGillis-Prior and Melanie Bell.

The team staff is comprised of head coach Ian Reinhardt, assistants Stewart Moggy, Brittany Reinhardt and Ty Reinhardt, trainer Marina Plexman and team manager Lee Bilec.

Atom "AA" Lady Wolves

In Lower Lakes Female Hockey League action, the Sudbury Midget "AA" Lady Wolves remain in search of their first win of the year, falling to 0-6-1 with a 2-0 loss at the hands of the North York Storm.

The local girls will get another decent shot at tasting victory this coming weekend, with the Aurora Panthers (0-4-2) in town for a Sunday afternoon encounter at 2:45 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

No lack of Sudbury talent travelling to the nation's capital this coming weekend as no less than five of the Sudbury Lady Wolves teams are taking part in the Kanata Rangers 34th Annual Competitive Tournament.
