Lady Wolves howl to victory in Whitby

The Sudbury Lady Wolves contingent could not have hoped for much more, going four-for-four at the 2012 Whitby Tournament of Heroes late last month.

A complete shutdown defensive effort paved the way for the local Atom B squad, picking up their first tournament win of the season in Whitby.

The team steamrolled their way through the competition, starting with a 2-0 win over the Oakville Hornets thanks to goals from Morgan Leduc and Katie Chomiak, who opened the scoring for Sudbury.

The young ladies gained momentum from that point on, gathering steam with a 5-0 win over the Whitby Wolves.

Chomiak and Rose Quevillon paced the attack with two goals apiece, while Megan Parent rounded out the scoring with a solo tally.

Goaltender Kristen Mrozewski racked up the shutout in what was to become a trend that was maintained through to the end of the tournament.

The guns were blazing in Game 3 as the northern Wolves swamped the Clarington Flames 9-0, with seven different ladies finding the back of the net for Sudbury.

Quevillon and Isabella Becker scored two goals each, with Parent, Fiona Symington, Savannah Crossthwaite, Chomiak and Vanessa McKinnon rounding out the offensive outburst.

In semifinal action, there wasn't much more to contend with as the Lady Wolves walked over the Windsor Wildcats 8-0.

McKinnon (2), Symington, Parent, Leduc, Crossthwaite and Becker were joined on the scoresheet by Kate Watters, with Mrozewski picking up her second straight whitewash.

The team kept the pace with gold medals on the line, outscoring the Grand River Mustangs 3-0 on a two-goal effort from Becker, a single marker from Chomiak, and the continued flawless netminding of Mrozewski.

The other Sudbury Lady Wolves' teams which secured gold in Whitby were the Novice B team, the Atom A girls, as well as the Peewee B Lady Wolves.
