Taking a break from their Lower Lakes Female Hockey League schedule, the Sudbury Midget "AA" Lady Wolves squeezed in a very solid showing at the Two Nations Prep Series last weekend in Detroit, facing U19 competition over the course of their five outings.
The locals opened by doubling the Madison Capitals 4-2 as Emilie Comeau, Carissas Baron, Deseray Zazulak and Jenna Lachance all managed to hit the mark Friday morning for Sudbury.
Game two was a typical top end girls hockey match-up with limited scoring as Luca Rebek (Sudbury) and Taylar Meier (Team Colorado) traded third period goals, the Lady Wolves and their Denver-based opponents playing to a 1-1 draw.
Two more games on the slate for Saturday as the northern crew endured a second straight 1-1 tie, this time against the Chicago Young Americans, with Ashtyn Denomme doing the damage offensively for coach Jay Duncan and company.
Goals remained hard to come by as Sudbury dropped a 1-0 decision to Team Wisconsin, with Madelynn Jablonski finding the back of the net for the winners, leaving the Lady Wolves with a 1-1-2 record to determine their final opponent on Sunday.
The team continued with their south of the border trend, blanking Team Illinois 1-0 as Aiofe Mahaffy converted on a pass from Jenna Lachance for the game's only goal and Madison Brunet earned the shutout, turning aside 30 shots between the pipes.
Back in Ontario this past weekend, the Midget "AA" Lady Wolves would see their four game unbeaten streak in league play come to an end, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Toronto Aeros on Saturday. Mya Headrick scored the only goal for Sudbury.
The crew are back on the road for three straight weekends, beginning Nov. 8-10, as the Lady Wolves do battle with the North Halton Twisters (Friday), the Etobicoke Dolphins (Saturday) and the Brampton Canadettes (Sunday).
Rounding out the Lady Wolves roster are Kristen Mrozewski, Jayden Denomme, Jaiden Duncan, Kelsey Dunn, Lauren Fearn, Myah Fillion, Joelle Gagnon, Elizabeth Laberge, Vanessa McKinnon and Hanna Smith.
