Two Sudbury high school basketball teams are
in currently engaged in tough battles at provincial
championships.
The Lasalle Lancers senior girls basketball
squad and the Lockerby Vikings senior girls basketball team are
both representing Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario at the
Ontario Federation of Schools' Athletic Association (OFSAA)
Championships.
The Lancers are battling in the 'AAA'
division, while the Vikings are fighting in the 'AA'
division.
The Lancers are in Ottawa. Their first game
took place Thursday at noon.
The Lancers were ranked seventh for the
tournament.
The Lancers won the Northern Ontario
Secondary Schools'Association (NOSSA) 'AAA' crown recently, at
Lasalle, with a win over the Korah Colts from Sault Ste.
Marie.
The Vikings won the NOSSA 'AA' title recently
as well, with a victory over St. Basil Secondary School.
The Vikings are seeded seventh as well for
the event.
The Vikings are in Belleville for their
provincial championship. Their first game was Thursday at 11:30
am.
Action for both teams continue today.
Both teams will need to win their first games
to advance to medal play this weekend.
Lasalle's head coach is Jen Bourget, while
Lockerby is coached by Terry Luoma.
