When it comes to the big game showdowns, the Confederation Chargers just seem to have the number of the Lockerby Vikings.

The elite two of the SDSSAA Division "A" Senior Girls volleyball ranks were meeting for a third straight year in the city finals this past weekend. While the teams were viewed as certainly being close in overall talent, it was the Vikings who had established regular season and tournament dominance.

Coach Stephen Beausoleil and company had sailed through yet another undefeated season of league play, adding a number of tournament banners to their collection along the way. The Chargers, meanwhile, were biding their time.

In fact, it almost looked for a while like they would wait too late to pounce, spotting the Lockerby crew a 2-0 set lead before roaring back to secure yet another city crown for the Val Caron school.

The drama capped off a complete day of volleyball finals, as the Lo-Ellen Park Knights went five full sets before slipping past the Lasalle Lancers 3-2 in the junior Division "A" gold medal match. The Knights picked up their second banner of the day courtesy of the midget girls team, 3-0 winners over the Chelmsford Flyers.

In Division "B" play, it was the St. Charles College Cardinals who would outlast the Lively Hawks in the senior final, while the tables were turned completely in the junior affair, the Hawks downing the Cards in straight sets.

NOSSA action is set for this coming weekend.
