Sitting in sixth place in the OUA women's basketball ranks, the Laurentian University Lady Vees pulled off an overtime victory against the third-ranked team on Saturday.
While the Vees marked a 75-67 triumph over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the nation's capital, it was the only win either the Vees or their male counterparts were able to capture on their weekend roadtrip.
On Friday night, the teams faced off against the Carleton Ravens. While the ladies fell by a 15-point margin of 61-46 to the hosts, the Voyageurs faced a 111-63 thumping.
Fifth-year players Katie Goggins and Lisa Furchner led the Vees with 17 and 14 points respectively. The Voyageurs were led by fourth-year guard Isiah Pasquale, who drained 14 points, and rookie guard Eric Ducharme, who added 12.
On Saturday night, the Lady Vees kicked off the action against the Gee-Gees, pushing the neck-and-neck affair into extra minutes and ultimately taking the game by a score of 75-67. Furchner led the team once again, tallying a career-high 32 points and 14 rebounds in the game.
The men fought hard through four quarters of play, however came three points short of a victory, as the Gee-Gees closed the game at 87-84. The Voyageurs were led by Mike Hull with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Laurentian Lady Vees and Voyageurs basketball teams are back in action on the road this weekend, taking on the Ryerson Rams Jan. 28 and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Jan. 29.
