Hats off and three big cheers for recent high school sports teams championship victories.

The Lockerby Vikings have been the big winners of late.

Last week, the school won the Sudbury District Secondary School's Athletic Association (SDSSAA) junior boys city soccer title with a convincing 8-2 thrashing of the St. Charles Cardinals. Angus Morris and James Carpino both scored two goals for Lockerby in the big win.

Then, the Vikings won the senior boys A football championship with a 28-12 victory over the College Notre Dame Alouettes.

Lockerby runningback Niel Petran scored two touchdowns for the Vikings.

The school has no doubt been left in a euphoric state with the recent championships. The senior football title is the first Lockerby has won since 1979.

The Vikings will now go play in the Northern Ontario Secondary School's Athletics (NOSSA) Championship Finals against the Sir James Dunn Trojans in Sault Ste. Marie this Saturday, Nov. 6.

The Lasalle Lancers won the boys senior B football championship last week as well, with a 36-7 win over the LoEllen Park Knights.

The College Notre Dame Alouettes won the SDSSAA girl's flag football championship with a 10-0 win over the Lasalle Lancers last week.

Alouettes' player Renee Borkovich had a tremendous game, scoring a touchdown and kicking a field goal in the championship victory.
